Dell v313 Printer on Windows 7 64-Bit
Problem details:
A common issue with printers these days is the user plugging in the device before the software driver is installed-- in many cases, Windows will install a generic or WDM driver which causes a problem when trying to install the actual manufacturer supplied driver.
Solution details:
The solution is to get the latest driver from the manufacturer's website (in this case I found it by googling "Dell v313 Printer Driver Windows 7" and I found this link:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R269722&SystemID=PRN_ALL_V313&servicetag=&os=W764&osl=en&deviceid=22025&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=2&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=40&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=397160
I remoted into the customer's computer, uninstalled the Microsoft supplied driver, then told the customer to remove the usb cable from the computer. I installed the driver and had the customer plug in the printer when prompted to do so by the setup program and the installation worked!
Customer is happy and thrilled to have recieved our service! Win-Win for us all!
