Corrupt Windows Mail Inbox
Problem details:
Client is getting an error stating their inbox is corrupt with Windows Mail.
Solution details:
Client noted their email was corrupt and they couldn't send or receive messages. I went ahead and verified that the email settings were correct for the client's email provider then began to send myself a test message from their account. The email sat in the outbox. I then went ahead and sent an email from my account to the client. The email sent on my side but didn't come in for Don. I verified the settings within TrendMicro Internet Security Pro and noticed the email ports were currently being blocked. By tweaking these settings of his internet security program the email messages downloaded into the inbox and sent from the outbox.
With the flood gates lifted, I then witnessed the corrupted inbox error Don mentioned earlier during the consultation. I created a proper export of his email and contacts then proceeded to run a database repair. After a minute the database repair appeared to not solve the corrupt inbox popups. I then proceeded to ask the client for permission to restart the computer and perform a check disk (via command prompt: CHKDSK /F) to resolve the issue. The client agreed and I restarted Windows with a chkdsk flagged.
Upon reconnection to the client it was noted the issue was resolved. I asked the client if they needed any further assistance to which they noted they were all set. I marked the case as resolved and thanked the client for connecting to us.
